FAQs

When is the best Season to visit Kenya / East Africa?
In this part of the planet, seasons are dictated by the rains; the long rains occur between April and June while the short rains fall between November and December. Safaris can be arranged all year, however it is worth taking the seasons and concentrations of wildlife into considerations and when planning your safari to East Africa. The bottom point is that there is nothing like the best time to visit East Africa, each season has its own advantages.

Can I travel Alone?...... or bring the kids?
Since our days are full of adventure, Tambuga safaris are perfect for anyone traveling alone or with the family.

What kind of physical condition is necessary?
Due to the fact that many of our safaris are not strenuous, except for the mountain climbing. No more than normal good health is required.

What kind of Accommodations can I expect?
One of the surprises of African travel is excellence of the accommodations. You stay in the best hotels, lodges and camps, known for their ambience, location and service. Virtually all lodges have private bath facilities and many have swimming pools. When your itinerary includes a tented camp, comfortable beds, fresh linens, superb meals, and hot showers await you at the end of each day.

How is the food?
In Africa you enjoy hearty breakfasts, and for lunch and dinner you choose an elaborate buffet or a hot meal. Top it all with a sweet from the dessert table of freshly baked pastries, custards and puddings, and freshly brewed local tea and coffee.

What kind of vehicles do we travel in?
In East Africa depending on the type of safari you choose, you either travel in a comfortable, well maintained micro-bus with “pop up” roof, or in a specially equipped four-wheel drive vehicle, also fitted with roof hatches. Through the open roof, you have a 360 degree range in which to observe and photograph.

What if there is a medical emergency? Our trip leaders and support staff take the utmost care with every aspect of your trip. In case of an emergency we have an effective communication to get us help in the shortest time possible. We subscribe to the Flying Doctors Association for easy evacuation in case of an emergency.

Clothes and Luggage?
Think of comfortable, practical, and only enough for the duration of your safari. We recommend in all respects ‘soft' type luggage. Go for casual clothes of neutral colours like khaki greens and browns since animals react to bright colours. Sneakers/trainers or good comfortable walking shoes for footwear. It can be very chilly in the early mornings and evenings, so pack sweater or lightweight jacket.

Travel Documents:
Please inquire from the appropriate embassy or high commission in the respective country. But better still Tambuga Safaris, we are at your service and will be glad to offer you assistance and advice.

Currency?
There is no restriction of the amount of foreign currency a visitor may import to the country as long as it is all declared on entry. East African countries will accept credit cards for payment of purchases.

Is Insurance recommended?
Every traveler is advised to take up travel insurance, which we can also organize for the period that you are in the country.

Airport Tax?
A departure tax when departing a country by air is levied at airports and varies from $10 -20. We would recommend that travelers should bring with them some small denomination bills of convertible currency. These would be very useful for such taxes and other disbursements.

Security? .
Africa is not different from anywhere else in the world-just the use of a little common sense is required. Do not leave valuables lying around-they are a temptation. Keep your cash, traveler's cheques and travel documents with you at all times.
